Maryland Roof Systems

Maryland Has a Wide Variety of Roof Systems

As a Maryland roofing contractor with years of experience, we’ve installed a variety of roofing systems in Carroll County, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County and beyond. We work with both new structures and existent Maryland homes that require roof replacement. There are several different roofing materials you can choose from depending on your specific needs and challenges, and we’ll gladly help you make an informed decision.

Asphalt Shingles

There are different types of asphalt shingles, from your basic strip or 3-tab shingles to designer triple-laminated asphalt shingles. Asphalt shingles are the most commonly used product on residential properties today, covering as much as 80% of roofs in the U.S. The shingles vary in their resistance to fire, wind, tear, and other external forces.

EPDM

(ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) is a man-made rubber roofing membrane frequently used on flat roofs, as well as roofs with low slopes. It’s available in both black and white and comes in several thicknesses and widths. One great quality of EPDM rubber roofing is that it doesn’t pollute run-off rainwater, which makes it perfect for rainwater harvesting applications.

Metal Roofing

A metal roof is made of metal panels that come in various profiles and colors. Copper, aluminum, steel, and galvalume are some of the most common metals used as roofing materials. Metal roofs generally have a long lifespan, are very affordable, and require little maintenance. Certain metal roofs can meet the energy-star rating, have recycled content, and/or be installed over an existing roof, thus reducing landfill waste.

Green Roofing

A green roof is a roof system partially or completely covered with vegetation. Green roofs serve several purposes, such as protecting the membrane from harmful UV rays, absorbing rainwater, providing insulation, creating a habitat for wildlife, and helping lower urban air temperatures and mitigate the heat island effect. A green roof can also be combined with a cool roof or supplemented with solar panels.

Cedar Shake

Shakes are traditionally used for roofing and siding applications and are perfect for steep roofs. Properly installed cedar shake roofing provides long-lasting weather protection and a rustic aesthetic. If you are going for the cottage-style look, cedar shakes are the way to go. However, keep in mind that cedar shake requires more maintenance than other roofing systems.

Slate Roof

Slate is a natural stone known for its beauty and durability. A roof covered with slate tile (assuming it was properly installed) can last for more than 100 years and requires minimal maintenance. Slate is also one of the most fire-resistant roofing materials out there. What’s the catch? Slate roofing is rather expensive as well as heavy. You need to make sure your current structure is capable of supporting this amount of weight. Otherwise, your slate roof may collapse.
